IN HONOUR OF HER | Lauren Burns

  1. In honour of her

    A conversation with Lauren Burns

Long-time friend & Muse of the Brand

  1. In this special Mother’s Day edition of In Conversation, we speak with Lauren Burns — a long-time friend of Kate & Kole, now navigating a new chapter as a mother to her daughter, Maeve.

We last sat down with Lauren during pregnancy, in a moment of anticipation — a time defined by change, reflection and the shift into something new. Now, with Maeve in her arms, that perspective has deepened into something more tangible. Lived, felt and understood in a different way.

In this conversation, Lauren reflects on her journey into motherhood, the women who have shaped her and how those influences now live on in the way she holds Maeve and the life she is beginning to build around her.

  1. "Just when you think your heart has expanded to its fullest, they smile at you, reach for you, wrap their tiny fingers around yours and everything just amplifies. It’s magic."

  1. What has motherhood taught you about strength, patience or love?

Everything - I don’t think you can comprehend the full extent of those words until you become a parent. I’ve learnt so much about myself and my limits since becoming a mother. The strength in our ability to create and birth life, to constantly put someone else’s needs before your own, to give everything while healing and often running on empty.

The patience to put our own ambitions on hold, to lean into the slow days and embrace every moment that may seem small and insignificant at the time, but quickly become some of the most magnificent memories. And the love - it’s all consuming and insurmountable. There’s really nothing quite like it. Just when you think your heart has expanded to its fullest, they smile at you, reach for you, wrap their tiny fingers around yours and everything just amplifies. It’s magic.

  1. Is there a value or belief you carry today that you know came from your mum?

So many! To not stress about the small stuff; remember time is fleeting so to live fully in the present moment and embrace every day. Know that whatever is meant to be, will be, and put trust in the universe.

  1. What do you think your mum endured or carried that shaped the life you live today?

I think the mental load that mothers carry is truly remarkable. The fact that my mum juggled a corporate career in Sydney, commuted very early hours so she could be home and present for dinner time , made sure we never went without while stressing the importance of hard work, drove us to all our activities (including parties when we were 18+ so she knew we were home and safe).

The list goes on but ultimately my mother endured every task, every hardship and hurdle, effortlessly to give my brother and I, and now Maeve too, the most loving and full life.

If you could thank your mother for one thing, what would it be?

I would thank her for truly everything. For shaping the person I am today, for believing in me and for the lessons she taught us. She really set us up for success by teaching us the value of things from a young age (needs vs wants, she encouraged really good saving habits).

She always emphasised the importance of family, to never go to bed angry and always put yourself in other people’s shoes. I thank her for being so present and for dedicating so much of her time to us - even now, as an adult with my own daughter, she will bring breakfast to my house, take care of Maeve so I can go to the gym and do anything she can to ease the load. She’s the most selfless person I’ve ever met and the most phenomenal role model.
